Mellow Leaf wanted a cannabis store in Peterborough, Ontario, that reads as a boutique rather than a dispensary: deep green walls, gold lettering and gold-framed glass cases on a pale wood floor. DNS Industries designed the fixtures, built the fixture and millwork package and installed it.
The islands are the fixtures everything else is measured against, because they sit in the middle of the floor and are seen from every side. Each one is a black laminate case on an open gold-finished metal base, with a glass vitrine top for product, drawers below for stock, and the category names (Sativa, Hybrid, Indica) in gold on the face. The gold trim at the vitrine edge matches the base frame, so the two parts read as one piece. The black laminate is an anti-fingerprint finish, chosen because display cases in a cannabis store are touched all day.
Around the room, black base cabinets carry glass-shelved display cases with lighting built into the uprights, under a run of category headers. The back wall takes the “Mellow Out” lettering and leaf mark in the same gold finish. Screens are set into the casework above the shelving for menus.
A seating area with green velvet chairs and a gold-framed table sits to one side of the sales floor, with a black and gold console under a screen. It is a small part of the store, but it gives customers somewhere to sit and talk to staff.
