Brownsburg School was designed to reject the straight lines and hard corners of typical institutional casework — warmer, more considered, more human. Turning that design into built millwork was DNS Industries’ job. Working with Groupe Chagall, we fabricated the complete architectural millwork package to the architect’s drawings: 16 classrooms plus the gymnasium, reception, and the shared spaces that connect them — every component engineered for manufacture, CNC-machined, and finished in our Vaughan facility.
Curves look effortless on a drawing. Translating them into built millwork is another matter. A flowing reception desk, cherry benches with hand-shaped curved ends, and CNC-machined curved tops each demand exacting templates and precision machining. The most complex curved tops were shop-fabricated to tight tolerances in the DNS facility — because a curve that’s a few millimetres off reads as a mistake, while a curve that’s exact reads as craft. Get it right in the shop and it arrives on site ready to fit.
A single flowing curved desk greets students at the entrance — the first thing anyone sees, and the piece that sets the tone for the whole building.
Sixteen classroom environments pair durable solid-surface counters, lockers, and office casework — warm wood tones set against bright accent panels. Kitchenette runs, paper-storage millwork, and LED-lit display cubbies turn everyday storage into part of the design.
An LED-backlit wood feature wall brings craft into the circulation spaces between classes — the kind of detail that makes a corridor feel designed rather than merely functional.
Brownsburg proves a point DNS makes on every institutional project: school millwork can be as considered and crafted as any premium retail floor. The same tolerances, the same finish standards — applied to a space students use every day.
That’s the role DNS plays for design teams. Architects and designers bring the vision; we bring the engineering and the machining that turn it into millwork built exactly as drawn. Alongside the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte Elder Care residence and École L-P Paré, Brownsburg shows what that partnership delivers.
